SWIM: 3300y (1.875 miles) in 1hr 20 mins. WU of 800y as 75y easy/25h hard. Then more WU of 8x50y (10s) as 25y easy/25y hard. Main set of 16x100y (10s) record total time. Then CD of 2x[100-75-50-25] (10s).
Just reading the session plan is tiring. And I still think the workout sounds shorter if done in a 50m pool (regardless of the yard-to-meter inequity). I waited until later in the morning for this one, around 8am. I skipped the Master's swim since I couldn't fall asleep until late. I need to write a Sleep Challengfor myself.
The WU was long and boring, but I relished the 16x100's. They got easier and easier as the time passed. In fact, I lost count part way through--I was so tired I forgot about the numbers! Thankfully I had my little ring counter to help there. Usually I break it up into smaller chunks so the numbers aren't intimidating, because otherwise going back and forth across the pool 66 times total can be enough decide to clean floors instead. I'm also happy that I did even splits--both halves of the 1600 in 17 minutes.
I'm supposed to compare this to previous times from April 5th on which I did 15x100 in 33 mins for a 2m12s/100y pace. Today: 34 mins/16x100 = 2 mins 7 seconds!!!!!! WOW, that's 5 seconds per 100?!?
Keep in mind too that I count the 10s rest in my head, so I could have shaved or added seconds there.
Even better, on the 16th 100, I went all out and broke my benchmark goal, finishing in 1:48! Awesome! Even better, during the CD I sprinted a 50y in 48 seconds!!! This one was a killer--I was finished by then and my muscles had nothing more to give. It was incredibly satisfying to have a great swim after last week's rest and recovery.
Swim challenge goals:
50y was 50s, completed in 48s, new goal 45s 19April
100y was 1:50, completed in 1:48, new goal 1:45 19April
500y was under 10mins, completed in 9:36, new goal 9:30 31March
1000y was under 20mins, completed in 19:38, new goal 19:30 9April
Oddly enough, the money carrot isn't working as good as the peanut butter, TV show, and Lara Bar carrots. I guess I'm a sucker for immediate satisfaction. (so why am I training 36 weeks for one race?) But let's calculate it out anyway...
The calendar says I've done 8 swims since starting. Seriously, is that it? Well, this is the start of only the 4th week. So 8x5 = $40. :-/ Add $20 for hitting all benchmark goals. $60. Ugh, how depressing! In that time, I've swam 8.65 hours for 19701y, so that works out to $6.93/hr. Still depressing. How about $0.003/yard! Worse! That means every lap is 15 cents! Cha-CHING! haha, just give me peanut butter! :P
I did make one buy with my cold, hard, chlorinated cash: $25 for TeamUSA armwarmers!
Also in the news today, both bikes were re-fit. Bird had a new saddle, Frea has re-adjusted aerobars, and the new Mavic shoes are fit.
Another newspiece is that I can pop my right ankle out of place. Nice, right? Last fall it was on the outside of the ankle, this time it's on the inside but I think the injuries are related. Likely a laxity in the joints from the marathon. Walking helps put it back in place, but this is a painful pop that happens with full plantar flexion. Keep an eye on it.
