Solo in TGP, and rethinking my 100K?

BIKE 20 miles in 80 mins, TGP
COMMUTE 9.2 miles

BE out for the holiday and family in WI, so on my own with music to entertain me. I'm faster with him because I'm pushed, but I held some great intervals today!

Yay! Felt good, kinda strained after this past weekend's heat and/or flu thing going on. Gawd I hope I don't become heat-sensitive or some shit like that. I still don't have the AC on in the house, the first floor is 77F and the second floor is LO. Haha, the battery. But I'm OK with it, not bothering me.

Anyway, I'm still waiting to hear back from the vet on Sugar's dx. Given the reduction in swelling under her ear/jaw I'm going to surmise that the ear infection (or some infection sensitive to the ear drops and/or the oral antibiotics) is the root cause of the swelling, and I expect to hear that the fine needle aspirate reveals an activated lymph node. That's a good thing! But is not confirmed. Once I know I can sign up for my 100K in early August. I've been debating this.

The D2D race really knocked me back. Took 1 week of almost no training, and potentially left me sick. I'm not sure how tomorrow's run will go, and I might find I'm still not fully back on track. My training plan has me 50 miles this week, 50-55 the next, then 18 miles resting, then 100K, then rest, then back up to training levels.

I definitely take SO's advice to "shut it down for a week" now. Not that I didn't take it last week, but I certainly mentally fought the idea and felt lazy for it. But back to the 100K --

Is doing a race like this good for me, or will it be more of a set back in training?
Pros: I need the practice over that length of time to prep for the 100.
I need the nutrition practice, and shoe test for distance
It's a confidence builder for the 100 miler
Cons: Expensive, maybe with travel
         Wears me out
Potential for injury or mental "injury"

My race options are currently:
Badger 100K in Wisconsin
Pros: flat simulation for Hennepin, cooler weather than STL, family visit,
Cons: $$$ for hotel and gas, board dog
     $$$ 190 registration, $120 hotel, ~$200 for dog

Shippey 100K near Antire Park
Pros: local, no hotel and one night boarding, 6pm start with night run
Cons: Fucking hills, I compared the Strava segsments and they simular to Chubb bluff, night run                   potential for unjury, hotter than WI race
     $$$$: 160 registration

Self-supported local 100K on Katy
Pros: free!, flat, could pick the better weather day
Cons: won't simulate race effort, lonelier, freedom to loaf and skip out with mental excuses
    $$$$: zippo monies involved

So...... money is my hold up for Wisconsin? That's it? I have an appt with Dr S that morning, just need to drop dog before the appt, have the appt, and drive up to Wisconsin (stewing the whole way I'm sure about the appt!).
