I'm undecided on my 100K! I'm sure I want to do one, but now I have two to choose from. Yesterday I found that there's a brand new St Louis 100K race on the same weekend. Much less travel, no hotel, but hills. Starts at 6pm and has 3 loops. What do I do!?
Badger: 6 hr drive each way, $190 registration, $130-ish hotel, flat, family, 33 hour cut-off, day start, miss a few days of work, fees to board dog
Skippey: 1 hour drive, $162 registration, $0 hotel, 7500 vert, local, 32 hour cut-off, 6pm start, done on Saturday, miss only Friday at work, maybe one night boarding of dog depending on my finish time.
UUUUUGGGGHHHHHHHH biggest concern is the heart. Healed or not healed, haha, I have to follow the rules of recovery. The hills of Shippey are problematic, but a night start for cool weather is a good balance. The flat of Badger is great, but the potential for daytime heat could be problematic.
The heat is a given. It will be hot regardless. It will be hot at the and of Shippey since I won't finish until mid-day. I keep typing Skippie. It's Shippie.
LOVE me some trails. LOVE me night running. LOVE me hills. LOVE me saving $$.
But Badger is a better simulator for the Hennepin race.
Talk to TV tomorrow at lunch.
