New Town then a 53/2 brick

BIKE: 53 miles in 3hrs
RUN: 2.1 miles in 20 mins

Volunteered at NT kids in the morning and that race wrapped up earlier than expected. The ride goal was a 3hr 50-ish with no hard efforts. A flat ride out of NT fit the bill. There's not a hill anywhere! And surprisingly, there was almost no wind!

So Frea and I set out in the heat with a working HRM! Finally my HR was 130-140 and not 160-180 in an easy ride. These numbers were more believable. I started out with a tailwind and turned into a headwind. All I did was turn right. How does that happen? How can there be a tailwind in 1 direction and a headwind in the other 3? What about crosswinds?

I have a recognized problem with mashing into headwinds. What better time to address this? On a flat ride I can't blame the hills. I focused on light feet, even effort, and not fighting the wind. The next goal was to keep a lower HR, and keep the pace at IM levels.

This last goal was hard to do, I just wanted to fly! I don't really have a flat course IM pace, but if the super hilly IMWI was a 6:45 race, half of that is 3hrs 20 mins, I was within a reasonable pace today as I did 53 miles in 3hrs. I guess the way to look at this is, could I have repeated the route at the same pace? Hmmm, I think so. Maybe on a less hot day with cold water bottles?

Great ride, no problems, few cars, pleasant attitude. The only downer had to be all the bugs! Big bugs that smacked my face, sunglasses, arms, and one got stuck in the vents of my helmet!!

The brick run was in the Kinvaras, and felt really good. The first 16were a steady run, the last 4 minutes were broken up as I got talking to KJ after the NT race.
