Buzzin' in the Big Ring

BIKE: ~2.3 hours for 33 miles

Today was supposed to be a day off, but when the opportunity to take Sunday's ride and move it to this afternoon came up, I took it. TdK is Sunday, so the plan is to rest Sunday instead. Maybe get my swim in after TdK?

The weather is still awful hot, maybe a week now of 95-100F days. It's starting to wear on me. I drink and drink and drink, but not that much comes out as pee! This morning I had a few hours away from the water bottle, and I let myself get dehydrated. Not a great set-up for tonight's ride.

Another not-so-great set-up was nutrition. I tried to not eat too much before the ride, leaving me hungry when the ride did start. I don't do a lot of afternoon workouts, so this is a challenge.

The goal of the ride was to spend 90 mins in the big ring. Why did I bring the tri bike for this? And why the tri bike for riding through town, then on the riverfront trail? That's Puppy's territory! Glass, potholes, start/stop...all not really Frea's domain. But the filly did fine.

I stayed in the big ring unless it was a big hill, then cross-chaining became an issue and I dropped down to the small ring. By the end of 90 minutes (the goal time for this ride) my right knee was talking to me. Not loud, but making itself known. I dropped down and stayed there.

Another goal for the ride was to avoid mashing the pedals and hurting my feet. I focused on "light" pedaling, throwing the knee over the bars, etc. Happily my feet felt pretty good when this was done!

After the ride we met up with more of the group and OH THE NEWS!!!! EK is doing IM CDA!!! And so is TB and CB!! And Wisco-MG!!! And CM is thinking about it!! And so is MK!!!!

OMG!!!! I have to check my calendar!!!!!!!!!!!!
