SWIM: 1900M in 1hr
RUN: 6 miles in 1hr
Fresh off the weekend and no break. Is Friday the best day to take off? It’s the only one without a Master’s swim for me…so I guess it is.
Even at 5am it was hot out. CHG modified the session for that reason, not much but it was on his mind. This should have been on our minds later in the run. Well, it was on our minds, we just didn’t heed it I guess. The swim felt good, my reach is getting better and more natural. I’m also starting to feel the roll of the shoulders, the push-back of the water, and propulsion. Last week it was every 3-5 strokes, now it’s more like every other. My right arm is still the weak link. CHG showed a drill holding my arm (him on the deck, me in the water) and once again showing me how it should feel to anchor against the water. He’s so patient. I’ll get this figured out.
LC and I decided to run around 12 or 1230 today, even with the 110-115F heat index prediction. It was so hot, like an oven. A smothering heat and humidity. I think we ran just because we knew it was a bad idea, and because everything thought we were crazy. Like running in the rain with everyone giving you weird looks from their dry little cars. There’s crazy, then there’s crazy. We were in the latter group.
I got a one mile WU in before she joined me. We stopped at every water fountain and rested in the VC. Shade was a blessing that we slowed down in. As sucky as this might have been, and as stupid, it was still a good training block. Can I drink lots of water—Yes. Can I eat a gel—Yes. Do the arm coolers work—Yes. Is it a good idea to do intervals—No. So no 30s intervals as planned today. Just getting out there was interval enough.
I was pretty dehydrated later, no amount of water seemed to help.
