SWIM: 2000y in 50 mins. 100WU, 300kick, 2x600swim, 1x400swim&CD. Overall ave time 2:30/100y.
I post the 2:30 because it's notable for the fact that it's much less than the 3:00 I've been posting. Not that 2:30 is fast, or that this measurement is even reasonable (every session is different, and this time includes the kicks and rests) but it's still a downward trend. And I wouldn't post it if I didn't feel good about the swim.
Just me this morning, well it's just me every morning since DH doesn't get up before I leave. But still, I made plans to go straight to work after the swim. Meaning I needed to pack breakfast and all. I was terribly distracted this morning, persistantly wanting to read some wiki article on a movie. So much in fact that I burnt the oil for my eggs! FOCUS!
And even though I got up on time (4:10am), ate half of breakfast, didn't stop to talk to DH, I was still LATE! I forgot my water bottle and checkbook on the way out the door. Even if I had remembered, I would have been late anyway (not the <60 min time on the log). But enough of this chit-chat on the first hour of my morning.
The swim included a 300 kick, as 100's of right side, left side, dolphin, choice. I was out in front on these and felt fast, even though I was pushing to stay out in front. Then the MS: 3x600, keeping track of time. I rarely time myself in these swims, but it's time to start doing so. haha, time.
The first 600 was in around 12 mins, I lost track of the seconds. I was keeping up with my lanemates in the swim, but losing time in the turn-arounds. I don't flip turn and I don't open turn all that well. Instead I come to a dead stop at the wall, turn and look, then push off. In the turns that I do a smooth open turn it feels good. So why don't I keep doing it?!
The 2nd 600 was OK, but I started losing form. I was picking my head up too much. My arms got tired, even though I was working on the "hands on the box" and "fingers down" techniques, which meant I was still doing something wrong. The last 600 turned into a 400 as time ran out.
I didn't set goals for the week last night, so here they are:
1. Get the tri bike off the trainer and ready to race on Sunday. Ride it at New Town.
2. Get 3hrs of swimming in this week, assuming a 30 min race time (even though it will be >30 mins!). Make at least 10 minutes of the swimming bilateral breathing training.
3. Go easy on speedwork, and save it for Sunday. Get that 10K under 50mins!
