Saturday Double

SWIM: 1hr 2000y Not the most inspiring swim RUN: 8 miles on the Lewis and Clark trail system in Weldon Spgs This is a nice mix, swim at 6am then run at 8am. And there's just enough time to get from one to the other. The swim was unremarkable. There's a newer coach for Sat Master's, or maybe it's just a Sat Master's thing, but everyone gets the same set instructions at the same time and if you're off swimming you miss the instructions. CHG gives it to us in groups when everyone is mostly ready. So not terribly inspiring. The run was awesome, I was planning on some company but ran alone. Also had the new Cascadias on for their first run! I love love love this trail, it was the site of one of my first ever (if not the first ever) group trail runs with the club! That time I was the SlowZebra, the guys ran ahead on the long trail while I worked my way through the shorter one. MHeff stayed with me, doing hill repeats as a way to "wait" for me. I'll never forget the feeling of knowing that no matter what my abilities or pace I had running partners that were just as happy to run with me. And now when I'm the one considered "the fast one" in a group, I make a point of sharing that feeling: that people don't care about your abilities or speed or gear. They just care that you're willing put challenge yourself and make your best effort. Anyway, the song on the radio on the way into the trail was "Lose Yourself" and that was the song of the run. I'm adding it to the 2011 playlist. Fitting too since I ran 8 miles today! The Cascadias were OK, very nice on rocks and cushioning, but a little slippery in terms of my feet sliding fore/aft and side/side. But it's trail running, and roads don't test shoes like that, so maybe it's just a trail thing.
