'Short' group run, then 'long' swim

RUN 6.4 miles in 56 minutes
SWIM 3100 yards in I think 1:15, 8x250

As I'm coating up to head out the door I get 3 texts -- 3 of my fellow runners out of today's run. IT and DT showed up, so I can call it a 'group run'. It was cold - 16F - but all indicators are saying it's going to warm up! Finally! Great run, I felt light and strong.

The swim wasn't as great, again putting a swim after another workout seems to decrease the quality of the swim. After standing in a hot shower for about 7 mins (and I sometimes wonder where the time in my day goes...) I finally gave up on trying to feel warm and headed to the deck. Planning to break up my 250's with drills, I brought my gear with me and made a pile. Another swimmer thought it was scuba gear. I said, no this is how you know I'm a triathlete. :)

I fully realize that these hot showers probably make the pool feel colder to me, but I can't resist.

And yes, the pool felt cold. Especially the air above it. The WU was an 800 with each 4th 25 as a kick. I alternated breaststroke and kick. I dislike doing the no-fins kick on my back, so I was surprised to see that I moved at all while doing this! Already my arms are tired and suffering, yesterday's swim left them worn out. But that's the idea, right? Get tired, but keep going.

I knew as soon as the WU finished that the 8x250 as (100swim-50-choice-100swim, increasing effort #1-#4 and #5-#8) should be modified. Another decision between stubborn and determined. Had I chosen stubborn, I would have flogged though the set. By going for determined, I finished the goal with better form.

The first set was swim-pull-swim, the 2nd all pull, the 3rd swim-forearm fulcrum alternating, the 4th kicking. D was at the pool and asked about the fulcrums, then talked about some OWS races I'm interested in, about 6 minutes there. I for the most part repeated this set for the last half. D and I got talking again, another 4 minutes. The lifeguard needed me to move a few lanes over, another 4 mins. (He just had to ask on the day I have ALL my gear parked on the deck!). So that's why the time is a guess.

By the time I got to the easy 6x50 CD, I was cold, tired, mentally wiped, and wanted out. But at the same time I wanted to finish this thing! So The Bee talked me into doing 4 more 50's. Once done, he said I'm an overachiever and talked me into 1 more. Then he said Jeezus-freaking-Christ it's only one more minute of your day to finish this. So I did!

Ugh, at the showers I was clumsy, slow, kinda dizzy. The rest of the day I felt underwater, heavy, and tired. Not much motivation, even to get a nap! Yay for tomorrow's rest day!
