RUN: 1:47 and 12 miles for 8:55 pace
The instructions were for a steady LSD run, and where better to do a run like that but on the Canal path. Packed limestone, no hills, no traffic, and steady as it can get time to run. I only wish I had my HRM.
As it has been all week, the weather was Perfect. Tshirt and shorts weather, that perfect temp at which you dont even notice the air on your skin. Sunny. Some wind. Perfect!
I ran to Utica and covered that 4.5 miles in just over 40 mins. The run back was just as even. I only started to slog around mile 11.5, so this was a pretty good run. I was tempted to continue to 13.1 miles but didn't. But the easy pace and seemingly good time had me wondering what a half mary time would be for me at this pace...some calculating...1:56! My half mary PR is a 1:54:39 in 2009, an 8:45 pace. That's a race effort on a somewhat hilly course. A previous training run on Grant's trail had a 13.1 mile effort in 1:52 (why didn't I ever follow up on that with a HM race?). So if I can do an "easy" 8:55 on a flat course I can't help but wonder what my current race pace would be.
Nutrition was pretty good but maybe could have been a little more inspiring: half a powerbar and a gel (my first gel of 2012!). And I'm not sure the powerbar is the best to run on. Keep that in mind.
Later that day met my niece!
