Is posting 2 posts in one day the same as a two-a-day workout? This one is more like a brick--back to back blog posts. I am a training plan and schedule geek. I love to read training plans. 50K, IM, sprint, 26.2, 5K, century...I print them out and save them. And read them over and over. I have stacks and files of training plans I've never used. The times, the heart rates, the progression, build, and rest. I love it. I can derive a great deal of satisfaction from just envisioning the work of an upcoming week.
Some people have porn. I have training plans.
And I love making schedules, usually on the Friday before an upcoming week. Yet I doodle schedules all week long. My calendar is full of lists showing M T W T F S S lined up in a column with some combination of SBRs alongside. Then in an adjacent column another M T W T F S S. The two columns are connected by arrows. MS connected to W means Monday swim moved to Weds. TBR connected to F means Tuesdays brick was rescheduled for Friday. Sometimes I really get involved and label the SBRs with a subscript L, Q, S,or F. Long, quality, short, or fast; the 3 different types of workouts. Then a MSL can swap places with a TBQRS if needed.
If I'm near a computer, I dig out a blank excel worksheet and make color coded boxes. Then I move the boxes between columns. Oh Glory, I just love it. There should be a word for this. I'll come up with one.
So here's the current schedule, as planned out (again) last night. It's a combination of the HIM and 50K plans:
DAY--SBR GOAL
M--S Long Monday Masters, ~1hr
----R Short 3-5 miles
T--B Quality ~1hr with skills
W--R Long The first back-to-back
---- S *longer than 400y sets, base work
T--R Long The second in the back-to-back
-----S Quality All drills, short swim
F--S * shorter than 400y sets
S --B Long
----R Short
S--B Long
----R Quality/strength
Where's my day off? My M & F swims are "easy" days in my HIM plan. Is this really a day off? And why don't I have swim goals? Go back and fix. *
The long rides are still a few weeks off. Right now it's long runs. Eventually the Weds run turns into a mid-distance tempo run.
And what about strength training? I think I need to keep working on my schedule...
