RUN: 20.3 miles in 3:14, did the actual 20 in 3:11. Compared to the 1st one in 3:25 and the 2nd one in 3:07, I'm pretty happy! The 2nd 20-miler was all flat with no hills, while this latest one was a hilly run which included FoPa and the hills up Wydown to Cltn. The new Garmin captured my lap splits:
9.31, 9.51, 9.29, 9.45, 9.16, 9.37, 9.14, 9.31, 10.04, 9.42, 9.55, 9.52, 9.21, 9.09, 9.51, 9.37, 9.07, 9.28, 9.08, 9.32. In the end an ave pace of 9.33. (Goal pace was abt 9.24). Heart rated stayed between 135-155, mostly in the high 14o's.
Numbers, numbers, numbers. They don't say everything, and certainly don't tell what I think might be the most important parameter--how did the run feel? Great! I felt steady throughout, stayed fueled every 5 miles, stayed mostly hydrated, and most importantly I felt as if I could do another 6 miles. The crowd and excitement of the actual race will carry me too, so race day is looking good!
I had company on miles 1-5, then again on 6.5-11.5, after that I was on my own. Two loops of the park then I spun out of the park onto the marathon course. A good reminder of the hills and how I might feel once I get to them--I passed WashU at 14-15 miles, a very close approximation of the actual mileage on the course.
The run was on Thursday, meaning I had to spend the rest of the day at work. So I took the morning to focus on good food, electrolyte water, and stretching. (Didn't get in until 11, but didn't get home til after 8). I was wiped out and tired, but managed to finish the day still moving. No soreness, no fatigue, no pain. Yup, the marathon is looking good from here!
