Saturday BIKE 80 mins and 23? miles?
Sunday RUN 0!
Monday SWIM 1400y in 40 mins and BIKE COMMUTE 11 miles
Tuesday BIKE 13-14 miles in 50 mins, RUN 4 miles in 40 mins, and BIKE COMMUTE 9.5 miles
Saturday was an indoor ride, I was going to swim afterwards but I just got caught up in stuff. Selling the floral artwork right in the middle of the day, errands, then a doggie walk in TGP. Not much to say here.
Sunday. Oh Sunday. I slept in until 7:53! I didn't get to bed late, I did wake up a couple of times overnight once with the dog at 4am, but wow. Took me some time to "thaw", by the time I got back from walkies around 10:30 Dad called!! 2.5hr convo, boiled my first beef tongue, realized I hadn't done "biz" yet that day....it all added up to me not running. Went back and forth between regret and acceptance and guilt and relief. Guess I didn't want to run all that much. Guess I didn't need to either.
So ended my first week of "triathlon" training.
Monday back on course with a swim, just 40 mins as a 25-50-75-100-100-75-50-25 loco. Love the loco. Mild headache and neck fatigue afterwards.
Tuesday, not much to say except again I took time to "thaw", had bad "biz" before the ride in a T6 (not sure where that came from) and the run was supposed to be 65% easy, it was, but I didn't have more to give beyond that.
I think I'm still adapting to the diet change. No fruit, lower carbs. Doing about 60-80 per day total, with 25-40g fiber, so not sure if I should count net or total? Hopefully this is just a phase.

Thursday run, windy!
RUN 6.3 miles in 56:30
BIKE COMMUTE 9.5 miles
Add Friday while I'm here -- Rest, BIKE COMMUTE 9.5 miles
Didn't seem all to bad outside when I let the dog out at 4:30am -- dark and 37F. Then when getting ready to leave I saw the garbage bag/tarp blowing on the building behind my house --whipping in the wind! A windy 37 is much less pleasant, but not bad.
Did most of the run with BE, talked little bit on my upcoming MAF stuff (group unfamiliar with!), then some of BE's basement flooding woes, then his upcoming grandparent status, then grocery stores. Love the random.
Bike commute also windy, but only on the ride in. Ride home TAILWIND!

Another brick, this one a bike-swim
BIKE 40 mins about 12 miles, indoors
Bike to YMCA 3.5 miles
SWIM 45 mins and 1500y
Bike to work 2.8 miles
Bike home, total BIKE COMMUTE 11 miles
I thought it would be closer to 4 miles to bike to the Y, I keep mixing that up with the distance to BRR. Took only 20 mins to bike to Y, 10 mins from parking to deck, 15 mins deck to parking, then another 15 to work via The Hill. I almost drove this! The mental maths indicated a big loss in time though, adding a half hour at least. I woke up to 48F weather, and I thought about driving?!
The indoor ride was, well, an indoor ride. Did VGR sets. The swim was really a 30 min workout but took me 46 mins as I took my time and rested. My upper back and shoulders are a little sore from Monday still and I could feel the rear deltoids (not sure those should be tired from swimming...bad form?) but I was able to swim. The MS was 6x150 as 50 kick, 50 swim, 50 choice. That made it easy for me to rotate muscles.
I could feel my right ankle and a thigh muscle fatiguing, thought one might cramp but not today. I met Kelly, and Evolve swimmer planning on IM70.3 Chat :) Enjoyed chatting with other Y members. Enjoyed just being back.
We'll see how my back feels about that later today! I'm not doing the planned swim for tomorrow, most certainly don't need that or maybe even the optional Friday swim. Maybe move that to Saturday, keep it short? Thinking yoga on Friday? I don't want to burn out here in the first week. And I'm thinking I might have to repeat this two week introductory phase of the plan.

I did a BRICK!
BIKE 50 mins, about 14 miles
RUN 37 mins easy, 3.6 miles
BIKE COMMUTE 9.5 miles
A week of firsts continues with an honest to Gawd brick workout. The training plan said to include a 20 min TT effort but I don't have a HR monitor (yet!) so I modified. Picked a workout with short intervals for the same amount of time. Ended up being 3x5 mins Z4 (3m rest), and 3x2 mins Z5 (3m). No TV, just a timer and a podcast. Not even music.
The run I forced to be easy but to be honest I don't think I could have gone terribly much faster. The 35-40 mins time is a tough one for some reason. It's not quick, it's not my usual hour, I don't have a set route, it feels like it should be done faster, blah blah blah. I wandered down to the Brewery and looped back in to the BP 'hood. Stretch and foam roll, actually kinda pained on the quads, walk the dog, shower, and M1.
This felt great! Tomorrow is a 45m swim and 40m bike. Haven't planned it yet. Bike early indoors, bike commute to pool? Put the bike workout in TGP on the way to the pool? Pool first early then bike in TGP?? Gotta figure this out.
My arms are tired still from the swim, some very mild fatigue discomfort. Not sure I'll get 45 mins in swimming in tomorrow, but really the goal is to just get to the pool.

I SWAM! I WENT TO THE POOL!
SWIM! 1000 yards in 30 mins
BIKE COMMUTE 9.5 miles
I did it! I've been saying all January that "next Monday I'll get to the pool" and when Monday comes I don't. The recent joke has been that the Resolution'ers will be clogging up the gym, I should wait until February when the drop out. Excuses.
This Monday made it easy, the doggie had a vet appt at 930. Further, I needed to stop by the mattress store to finish that order. With lab meetings now in the afternoons, Monday mornings are open, this one especially. The plan was to hit the gym, mattress, vet, drop dog at home, then bike to work. WIN!
I did it! (As you may have guessed). I dug out my long-carried but rarely-accessed swim bag in the back of the truck, remembered as I grabbed it that I forgot my padlock, walked into and by habit pulled out my membership card and grabbed a towel, got to the pool deck and saw my lifeguard friend. His hair was cut short so I had to look twice,
***My 2016 Blogbook just delivered to me!***
, and sure enough it was him. I was smiling like a nut, waved, and gave him a quick hug. Short convo, then started unpacking, wondering aloud what I'd forget. Duh, swim cap! Finally got in the water.
As in July when I last swam, the first few laps felt so easy. Then muscle fatigue kicked in. I started slowing and looking forward to a kickboard or pull set. The training plan had 5x200 sets but I was fading out before the end of a 200. I modified as needed. I timed two 50's easy and unpushed at 59 seconds. Not sure where I left off in 2015 or 2014, I wasn't timing easy 50's at that time. But that's not a bad time to start out at.
The back was just fine. The left shoulder had two pops, not painful but an uncomfortable feeling that came and went. But I'm sure I'll feel more in a few hours or another day as the newly worked muscles start talking!

Been a week since I posted!
Weds RUN 10 miles with calisthenics every mile
Thurs RUN 6.3 miles with the group
Fri rest
Sat RUN 10 miles as work commute
Sun RIDE 60 mins to DVD
Mon -- Monday is special, separate post :)
I'll stop at Sunday. Oh and bike commutes every day but Monday. Holiday :)
I guess not much to say? Except that I think I'm formally switching over to a triathlon schedule next week
And I'm doing yet another nutritional test. I'm 70-plus days into the NSNG that is the best I've had so far. But I'm still up/down in energy, worst in the mornings after a workout. It's said that the carbs do that. I worked out that I'm averaging 150-200 total carbs a day. Not high, but not low, and in the mid-range we're warned against. So a test? I got the Maffetone book from the library, haven't read it yet. Also have the 2010 Taubes book, reading that now

I have the capacity, so my horoscope says
RUN 6.1 in 55 mins, out to FoPa and back
BIKE COMMUTE 9.5 miles
About to leave for my midday run (stomach upset this morning is my excuse for a delayed run) and while looking up the moon schedule found this in the Farmer's Almanac:
The Scorpion or the Eagle. Ruling planet: Pluto. Element: Water. Quality: Willpower. Ability: To focus on goals. You are the strongest members of the zodiac. Because of this, there is no middle road for you: Choose the high road or the low road, but choose you must. Unlike the other astrological signs of strength, you don’t waste it showing it off. You wait until you truly want something and then focus your will on your goals, drawing them in like a fisherman reels in his net. You have the capacity to get what you want.
I have the capacity to get what I want! The FA is a trusted source, certainly. WooHoo! But too bad about Pluto.
Just finished the run, 45F and of course I'm overdressed. The outbound along the zoo and highway had a headwind but I still needed to pull the coat off at two miles. Rather be overdressed than under! Then the trail was closed for repaving of the road to the zoo, of course I tried to cross through and only got mud and a dead end. Oh well!
---
Not sure what set my stomach off yesterday -- ate too much Sunday night (1 serve of plantain chips, pork, a few dates), too much butternut and/or blueberries and/or food Monday morning?, too much sitting Monday in the day (didn't sit that much, did I?). Drank too much kombucha once at work Monday, had 1-2 glasses kinda fast. Or it just happened? I'm thinking the combination of things. The kombucha tea is when the symptoms started, but drinking tea causing bloat? I googled and found that IBS peeps can have water "sit heavy" in the stomach, did I drink too much too fast and cause a motility reaction that slowed stuff down to cause bloat?
