Squeaky Snowy Speed Work

RUN 1hr and 7 miles!
No bike commute, snow!

When I woke up and saw the temps at 23F, I admit I wasn't looking forward to a run. But there was no question of going. Blustery wind, light snow that barely accumulated, it was kinda pretty...?

Out the door with good momentum, up to the RHS track after hitting Grand for a 1.5-is mile WU. Then two laps of pick-ups on the straights. The wind was coming out of the NNW so it was headwind-tailwind-headwind-tailwind. Cold-not cold-cold-not cold. My Adrenalines squeak-squeaked-squeaked on the snow. It wasn't slick, but I wasn't running with perfect form or cadence today. Still all good.

First interval a 1600 at 75%, about 7:34 mins. One loop rest, then 2x800's at 84% in about 3:30 mins. Finally 4x400's at 85%+ in about 1:43 mins. Good paces, all consistent. When I started I thought it would have been fun to have take a picture of my footprints in the snow. "I was here MANY TIMES". By the end of the session, my footprints were either filled in or blown away.

The 100 plan was for 4 miles, the speedwork was for 50 mins, and I was honestly surprised when I saw 6.6 miles as I neared home!  I thought maybe 5.5 miles. Bonus!

ETA: Wanted to remember how I couldn't press the buttons on my Garmin through the gloves and mittens. I even tried with my teeth but got an uncomfortable paint-scrape type of feeling. It was driving me nuts, so much so that as an interval ended I'd pull my gloves off in the last few seconds so I could be ready, and in the shorter 400 intervals I just left my glove off!

Supposed to be a rest weekend, I don't feel rested!?

Saturday RUN ~38 mins and 4 miles
Sunday RUN ~28 mins and 3.1 miles

Both mornings started late, didn't run until at least 9am. Probably ate too much beforehand, wasn't excited about the routes (from home, neighborhood), just didn't feel it. Leaves me worried I'm not rested, not healthy, not doing something right?

Annual health fair at work

BIKE COMMUTE 9.5 miles

This morning's ride much easier than yesterdays, sure helps to take a morning off now and then!

The annual fair at work had me at 11.4% BF! LOL! Up form 8% last year!

I've gained some weight too, up to 123 from I think 113 last year? My clothes still fit mostly the same, not sure where it is, I know some in the legs and hips, but it's all good. As long as I can run, run fast, and run strong!

Get in backwards!

RUN 7 miles in 58 mins
BIKE COMMUTE 9.5 miles

Some funnies from before the run. BE likes to back his car into the parking slot. We joked about it (he was running late, so he was open to it!). This led to a "why" discussion, some comparisons were made to getting on and off planes, and the new Devin joked that he also likes to get on planes backwards! Then we ran the loop backwards! DC and LC weren't there, so we get away with changes like this easier.

This was one of those runs in which I had to keep pushing myself. Sure I'm tired from yesterday's 10 mile two-a-day, but this happens a lot. I wonder if others think that I'm just running away (CS said I'm a machine) but do they realize just how much mental energy goes into pushing a pace, staying at the front, and not stopping?

I kept telling myself: float....float....float...relax the arms and shoulders, take a breath, relax, and FLOAT. Ever since I saw a runner last week running along the MoBot while I rode home this has been in my head (or was I driving and jealous?). He floated. It looked effortless.

So it's inspired this. Once I hit a few goals, I'm getting this as a sticker or a magnet!

First run commute from new home

RUN in 5.6 miles in 55.5 mins
RUN out 4.5 miles in 44 mins

I tacked on some extra in the morning, otherwise I'd just get 9.5-ish miles and I planned on 10. And it's so much easier done in the morning!

My first time run commuting from then new house! I run up to Sydney, to Compton, around CHP, then in on my old route. Wanted to see it again, and not do my usual bike commute course.

Listened to my TJM podcast -- talked about a Navy Seal guy who advised to "do something that sucks everyday" and "get comfortable with being uncomfortable". So when it came to the last tenths to hit 5.5 miles, I went down the hill south of the hospital instead of out on a flat. Told myself that would be my suck for the day. In the end, it really didn't suck so I'll have to find something else.

The run home seemed so sluggy and slow, but the time was good. It's a long run taken altogether, still gotta get my head around the new distance.

Goal was a low HR, twice a day run.

Rainy speedwork

RUN 5 mins in 44 mins, details below
BIKE COMMUTE none!

Drove in today because I needed to drop boxes off to TV. I've been saving and promising and encouraging re-use of the boxes, then when the time comes I'm disappointed that I couldn't plan better and not have to make an extra trip.

Sure it was raining in the morning, but I'd still rather be riding. But not with a bunch of portrait sized boxes on my back!

Workout was a 24 min 'tempo' run, as the plan calls it. I wondered as I approached the last 2' interval if it was supposed to be part of the cool down, or a harder interval? I did it as part of a cool down.
TIME  EFFORT   DIST           PACE
6 min   75%           0.8 miles    7:33m/m
2 min    60              0.2              9:43
2 min    84              0.3              6:42
6 min    60               0.64           9:18
6 min    75              0.76            7:55
2 min blended into CD

Nice that the first and last intervals of 6 mins were a near match. Good pacing.

Good rest of the day, so warm and nice in the afternoon. Headaches though for most of the day.

Hello February!

BIKE COMMUTE 9.5 miles

Good news, my bone drug prescription is approved!

And I'm finding my new habits fit me well. More I go, the better they'll fit!

Set a goal to get a Float Like A Butterfly, Sting Like A Bee decal for the truck :)
