Kettle 100 Recovery

Sunday post race: My biggest complaint was my knees, they were swollen and wouldn't bend! I had no appetite but knew I needed to eat so I did. Post food was planned knowing this would happen, so I had ready some sweet amaranth and rice balls, chicken and carrot soup, potatoes. Jess and Paul gave me a ride home, it probably wasn't a good idea for my legs to sit upright in a car for 2-3 hours like that! Dad sure had a good laugh when he saw me try to move! To my surprise, I didn't zonk out asleep like I expected. I napped in the car (with Malcolm fearing I'd lean on him!) and napped briefly on the living room floor. I took some NSAIDs and that really helped. Did one round of ice on the knee. Getting up to pee in at 3am sucked!

Monday: Again, to my surprise, not sleepy. I think I was too jacked up with a race high? Walking slow but OK, driving gave me nausea, eating gave me nausea, all as expected :) I started thinking about the next race. Ate out with Mic and Mom, just had baked potato with butter as I was bloated and heavy. My knees and ankles/shins were the most pained but things improved the more I moved around.

Tuesday: Good energy, feeling dull but awake. Ate out again, bacon and eggs after a too-big brekkie left me bloated again. I felt up to the drive back to STL until I started the drive. Tired! So I stopped in Bloomington and Springfield to break it up, bought foods for dinner at the latter to keep me entertained in the drive. Ate mostly veggies for dinner and expected the worst for the next morning. So tired I almost couldn't sleep but once I zonked out it was great.

Wednesday: But I was OK in the morning?! Everything is improving, I'm pee'ing water out like crazy as the inflammation and swelling drops. Super casual dress day at work. :)  Eating normal, but small meals with lots of fat to get calories in. Minimal pains everywhere, and back stretching went great. Super heavy sleep, getting that in finally.

Thursday: I joined the run group to walk my dog, my head wanted to run but not my body. Understandable! Still low appetite and some nausea, but energy good enough to ride to work! Minimal pains, much less swelling.
